|
When disaster strikes, a fast and effective response can save lives. Tara Foundation volunteers are
always ready for any emergency sitation. For us, it’s not just every day that counts,
it’s every hour. We quickly respond to any disaster.
|
Our volunteers are experienced in delivering effective emergency aid. We have worked in Sitamarhi,
Darbhanga, Madhepura and Muzaffarpur districts during flood times.
|
Specific areas of our attention include (i) Protection and rehabilitation of housing, infrastructure
and public facilities (ii) Provision of technical and policy support to humanitarian agencies before
and after crisis in the context of human settlements (iii) Building partnerships and provision of
complementary expertise in resettlement of displaced persons and refugees (iv) Restoration of local
social structures through settlement development (v) Rehabilitation of local government structures
and empowerment of civil society (vi) Land and settlements planning and management for disaster
prevention. We are already organising seven disaster committees in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.

ACTIVITIES DURING CALAMITY CAUSED DUE TO FLOODS IN MADHEPURA DISTRICT OF BIHAR

We started the rescue operation at the worst-affected Tengraha Parihari and Rahuta Panchayat under
Kumarkhand Block of Madhepura district. Sixteen volunteers and staff started the rescue mission in
Kumarkhand Block. Many lives were saved in this quick response. We organized Community Kitchen at
Machahan village under Tengraha Parihari Panchayat of Kumarkhand Block, Madhepura, where 2,000
people were provided shelter and food. Another Community Kitchen was started at Machahan East
village under Rohuta Panchayat of Kumarkhand Block, where 2,500 people were provided shelter
and food. Community Health Centers and Community Education Centers were also started for the
flood victims. We were ably supported by the District Health Society, Beta Net and Swiss Aid in our efforts. More than
800 small children benefitted from the Community Education Centers. Tara Foundation also distributed
Emergency Flood Relief Kits to 3,000 victims at Tengraha Parihari and Rohuta Panchayat of Kumarkhand
Block. Top government authorities also visited the camps and programs run by Tara Foundation.
